Low speed pursuit near Portugal Cove ends with arrest of 29-year-old

RNC officers responded to the area of Torbay road just after midnight on Friday, after
receiving a complaint from the public advising they were driving behind a vehicle that was
swerving all over the road.

Officers located the vehicle in question and tried to conduct a traffic stop, however the driver would not stop. Patrol officers then initiated a low speed pursuit that continued into Indian meal line and the Portugal cove area.

Officers used a spike belt successfully that flattened tires however the driver would not
stop and eventually went into a wooded area. In the interest of public safety police utilized a police vehicle to force the suspect vehicle off the road which ended the pursuit before the vehicle could make it back out to public roads. The driver then tried to flee through the passenger door however gave up with the presence of a police service dog.

The 29 year old accused was placed under arrest for flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle. The accused was conveyed to the city lock up and held for court.
