RNC makes arrest for kidnapping
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has made an arrest following a kidnapping investigation in St. John’s.
On Monday, around 8 a.m., the RNC received a report that a woman was in distress at a business on Thorburn Road. Operation Patrol Services quickly located the female and confirmed her safety. Responding officers believed the woman had been taken against her will from a home in Mount Pearl.
The Major Crime Unit was engaged and following an investigation, her 28-year-old partner was arrested yesterday in the centre city area and charged with:
- Kidnapping
- Forcible Confinement
- Assault with a Weapon
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm
- Assault
- Uttering Threats
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Causing a Disturbance
- Breaching a Probation Order
He was held in custody to appear in provincial court today.
The investigation is ongoing. Officers are looking to locate and track the movements of the subject vehicle described as a white 2019 Subaru Impreza hatchback with Newfoundland and Labrador licence plate JJW 647. The vehicle has a distinct damaged, black front bumper. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling in the metro-area from 12 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. yesterday.
Additionally, investigators are looking to speak to anyone who was at the Thorburn Road Tim Hortons around 9:30 a.m. yesterday.
