RCMP Traffic Services West arrests impaired driver
A 60-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving by RCMP Traffic Services West on Tuesday, after he was pulled over for operating a vehicle with expired registration.
On Feb. 17, `an officer patrolling on Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was operating with expired registration. During the traffic stop, police observed signs of impairment by alcohol and provided the driver with a demand for a breath sample.
The driver, a 60-year-old Port aux Port West man, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired operation. He was transported to the detachment where he provided further breath samples that were over the legal limit.
His vehicle was seized and impounded and his driver’s licence was suspended. He was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for operating an unregistered vehicle and driving without insurance. He was released from custody and is expected to appear in court in April 2026 to answer to charges of impaired operation.
