RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador arrests two impaired drivers over weekend
Two motorists – one in Grand Falls-Windsor and one in Port au Port – were arrested for impaired driving by RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador this weekend. Both drivers will appear in court at later dates to answer to charges of impaired operation. In addition, each had their driver’s licence suspended and both vehicles were seized and impounded.
During the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 10, an officer on patrol in Grand Falls-Windsor conducted a traffic stop outside a pub on Lincoln Road. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was unable to provide their driver’s licence, and showed signs of intoxication. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested for impaired operation. The man was then transported to the detachment, where he provided additional breath samples in excess of the legal limit.
The following day, Jan. 11, around 12:50 a.m., Bay St. George RCMP stopped a vehicle on Main Road in Port au Port and observed that the driver, a 23-year-old woman, showed signs of impairment. A roadside test was administered, and the woman was arrested. Additional samples collected at the detachment were well above the legal limit.
