RCMP and Natuashish Ground Search and Rescue locate overdue snowmobiler
Natuashish RCMP is expressing its deep thanks to all the dedicated volunteers of the Natuashish Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) team for their assistance locating an overdue snowmobiler over the weekend.
On Friday, Jan. 23, police received a request from the Nain RCMP detachment regarding an overdue snowmobiler travelling between Hopedale and Nain.
Police engaged Natuashish Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR), who launched a team of volunteers to search for the snowmobiler. He was located by searchers who found him in good condition, but unwilling to travel with GSAR back to Natuashish.
The searchers spent several hours attempting to convince the snowmobiler to return with them, citing concerns for their safety and well-being in the freezing temperatures before returning to Natuashish. The individual elected to stay in place and returned to Hopedale with aid from family members the following day.
