Police make arrest after shelter-in-place order near Cochrane Pond

Justice, News

Police have made an arrest after a break and enter and vehicle theft that triggered a shelter-in-place in St. John’s.

On Friday, Jan. 16, at approximately 8 p.m., the RNC responded to a break and enter at a residence on Riverside Drive West where a man had entered a home, presented a weapon, demanded cash and a vehicle, and fled the area. There were no injuries.

Minutes later, officers found a vehicle matching the description travelling towards Mount Pearl and attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled from police, who did not pursue in the interest of public safety. The stolen vehicle was found unoccupied in the median of the Trans-Canada Highway near Cochrane Pond shortly before 8:30 p.m.
