Natuashish GSAR helps RCMP rescue swimmer in distress

Justice, News

With the assistance of Natuashish Ground Search and Rescue, police in Natuashish successfully rescued a swimmer in distress Saturday night.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on June 6, officers received a report that a person was in the water at Sango Pond, and was in visible distress, having difficulty staying afloat and yelling for help.

Police attended the scene and located a man in the water approximately 300m from shore. Natuashish Ground Search and Rescue was engaged and two volunteers arrived on scene with a canoe to assist the man.

Officers and GSAR volunteers were able to bring him safely to shore where an ambulance was waiting. He was taken to the local clinic for assessment and treatment.

An investigation into how the male entered the water is ongoing at this time.
