NLHS making changes to implementation of new electronic health information system after outcry from doctors
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is creating some changes to the implementation of CorCare, a new province-wide health information system launching later this month.
The NLMA wrote to NLHS CEO Ron Johnson seeking written clarification on whether the use of CorCare Link will be mandatory at go‑live. Mr. Johnson confirmed the following:
CorCare Link will not be mandatory at Go-Live. NLHS has set a window to transition people to the new system but there is no end date. NLHS will accept referrals as it does now and will not refuse anyone. There will be no delays other than time necessary to process the referral.
The NLMA has carefully reviewed Government’s response to our CorCare compensation proposal. While we acknowledge that Government made some movement from its original position, the response received does not adequately reflect the realities physicians are facing. In NLMA’s view, the current offer falls short in recognizing the significant time commitment, practice disruption, and financial impact CorCare will impose on physicians.
The NLMA has also reiterated that Government has not yet responded to our proposal addressing workload disruption and productivity loss following the April 25 go‑live date, which remains a significant unresolved concern. Physicians must not be expected to absorb unpaid workload and income loss, particularly in the context of ongoing recruitment and retention challenges. NLMA continues to engage with Government to push for a fair and realistic approach that reflects the scale of this system transformation, and the essential role physicians play in its success.
