On December 29, Memorial University became aware of an issue with the information technology services at Grenfell Campus.

As a result, the start of classes for the winter 2024 semester has been moved to January 8, for in-person courses offered through Grenfell Campus. This includes Western Regional School of Nursing with the exception of fourth-year students completing NURS 4516.

Online courses offered through Grenfell Campus will begin as scheduled unless otherwise notified.

As soon as the issue was discovered, security protocols were put in place to isolate the impacted systems and an investigation was launched. Memorial is confirming that the issue is the result of a cybersecurity incident and law enforcement has been notified.

IT services at the Marine Institute were temporarily shut down as a precaution.

There is no indication at this stage that services or data on other campuses were impacted. At all other campuses, the semester start date remains Thursday, January 4, for classes, online and in person.
