A 38-year-old man is facing a number of charges after an elderly woman was assaulted with pepper spray.

Police were called to the west end of St. John’s on Tuesday afternoon after receiving the report. The man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of a release order and breach of probation.

The accused was held to appear before a Judge.
