A cyclist escaped a collision with only minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the centre of St. John’s Wednesday evening. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Bonaventure Avenue and Empire Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. following the collision. Reports from the scene indicate a cyclist was struck while riding across the intersection by a driver who left the scene.

The cyclist was assessed by paramedics with Eastern Health, but did not require any further treatment at the time. Their bicycle sustained minor damage in the collision.

A passerby who witnessed the collision was able to see the license plate number of the vehicle involved and provided that information to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, who are investigating.
