What’s open and what’s not during the holidays

Business, News

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are statutory holidays in every province and territory, meaning that most shops, businesses and offices are closed nationwide. But whether or not stores and workplaces are open on Boxing Day depends on where you live.

Boxing Day is not a statutory holiday in the Atlantic provinces, but it is still a designated retail closing day, which means you can expect most shops and malls to be closed on Dec. 26. Exceptions can include smaller grocery stores, pharmacies and shops.

if you’re travelling elsewhere in Canada, most shops and malls are allowed to be open on Boxing Day, with many offering sales and door crasher deals. Here in this province, consumers can expect those sales to begin on December 27th.
