Ottawa’s Senate Committee in town to study Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil industry

Business, News, Politics

Members of Ottawa’s Senate Committee on energy, the environment and natural resources will be visiting St. John’s this week as part of their study on the province’s offshore petroleum industry.

The committee launched the study in the fall of 2025 with a goal to better understand the unique nature of the province’s industry and its role in supporting energy security and economic development. The committee includes one senator from this province, including David Wells who, before his appointment to Senate in 2013, served as Deputy CEO and board members of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.

The fact-finding mission will run from today until Thursday.
