Air Canada CEO announces retirement amid criticism over lack of French

Business, News

Breaking news out of Ottawa this morning.

Air Canada chief executive Michael Rousseau has confirmed he will retired later this year. The timing is interesting since he came under fire last week for he failed to deliver a video condolence message in French following a plane crash that claimed the lives of two Air Canada pilots.

He is expected to continue to lead the company and serve on its board of directors until he steps down.

Rousseau was widely criticized for the lack of French in the four-minute condolence video posted online that included only two French words — “bonjour” and “merci.”
