NSO announces Persio Dominguez Piantini as RBC Emerging Artist Conductor for 2025-26
The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra has announced that Persio Dominguez Piantini has been chosen as the RBC Emerging Artist Conductor for the 2025-26 season.
“I am delighted that again through the support of RBC we are able to bring a young conductor in to work with the NSO, as the RBC Emerging Artist Conductor,” said Simon Rivard, Music Director of the NSO. “In particular, this year will be special for me as it is my first year as Music Director with the NSO. In meeting Persio, I know that he will get a lot out of this experience working with our orchestra, with me and with the exciting guest conductors we have as part of this season.”
Piantini will hold the position of RBC Emerging Artist Conductor for the 2025-26 season. In addition to working with the NSO, he will also support the educational work of the orchestra, assisting with upcoming educational projects this spring. Through the fellowship, the emerging artist will have the opportunity to work with established local professional musicians and celebrated guest artists.

“I am excited and thankful to both the RBC Foundation and the NSO for this great opportunity. Getting the chance to work with a professional orchestra, and to gain valuable insight from a variety of conductors this season will help me develop as a conductor,” said Piantini. “I would like to thank Memorial University School of Music for their continued support of this program, as well as my professors and mentors who have helped guide me during the early stages of my conducting career.”
He will take the podium to conduct the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra during next week’s Winter Pops: That 70’s Show. This program is made possible through the generous support of the RBC Foundation and Memorial University’s School of Music.
