Newfoundanders win Oscar
At the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday, Frankenstein took home three awards, including best makeup and hairstyling. The Oscar-winning makeup team includes two artists from this province.
The makeup team, which brought to life Guillermo del Toro’s adaption of the 1800’s gothic novel, included two Newfoundlanders – Michael Walsh and Simone Quinlan.
Walsh is known for his special effects work on the Apple TV series See.
Meanwhile. Quinlan is known for her special effects work on blockbuster films Nightmare Alley and Trap.
During filming, Best Supporting Actor nominee Jacob Elordi’s makeup took up to 10 hours a day to apply. The actor also had to stand for four to five hours a day to have prosthetics applied.
