Thousands of music fans packed Churchill Park in St. John’s Friday night as pop superstar Kesha officially kicked off the 2026 Churchill Park Music Festival, launching what promises to be one of the biggest weekends of live entertainment in Newfoundland and Labrador this summer.

Fans of all ages filled the park, singing and dancing along as Kesha delivered a high-energy performance, featuring many of her biggest chart-topping hits. The concert marked the opening night of the annual festival, which has grown into one of Atlantic Canada’s premier outdoor music events, drawing visitors from across the province and beyond.

The excitement continues Saturday night, with Grammy Award-winning country trio The Chicks taking the stage before another sold-out crowd. Festival organizers say the event has become a major summer tradition, combining world-class entertainment with a significant boost for the local economy, as hotels, restaurants and businesses welcome thousands of visitors to the capital city Organizer Pete Quinton told NTV’s Toni-Marie Wiseman that it’s been a labour of love and bringing the world’s best music talent here.

The music continues next weekend, when fans will be treated to another blockbuster lineup as rock favourites Matchbox Twenty bring their catalogue of hits to Churchill Park before country superstar Keith Urban closes out the festival.
