Dates set for 20th Annual Women’s Work Festival
Promoting work by women and artists of marginalized genders, the Women’s Work Festival
returns for its 20th installment from March 1-8 in St. John’s, Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland and Labrador).
The Women’s Work Festival present plays-in-progress readings: PAZ by Alicia Payne; a child goes missing after her Filipina nanny is fired. Modern Vintage by Amy House; Lorraine and Ethel, sisters in their sixties, are living in their childhood home, when one morning Ethel announces she is leaving. I Don’t Feel
Pretty/Chu pas cute by Nancy Kenny; a bilingual (English/French), absurdist dark comedy taking place inside the fractured mind of an alcoholic on a bender. And To Our Roots by Jamie S. Merrigan; inspired by Jamie’s close relationship with his grandmother and his experience with being trans in Newfoundland.
This year the festival will also host special events including: An opening party featuring Kelly and The Tall Cans, General Auditions in partnership with Stephenville Theatre Festival, Writer’s Salon playwrights, poets and writers to gather and work in a communal setting, Playwriting Lab Showcase, International Women’s Day Performance Walk, Hot Chocolate Social & Women’s Work Fair, & more!
The festival will also present both virtual, hybrid, and in person workshops, panels (including one with WWF founders looking back and celebrating 20 years), one-on-one meetings, yoga and more!
