135 women gather for Newfoundland and Labrador Cancer Conference for Women

Health, News

The Cancer Care Foundation is welcoming 135 women from across Newfoundland and Labrador to St. John’s this weekend for the 2026 Newfoundland and Labrador Cancer Conference for Women.

Taking place Oct. 2–4 at the JAG Hotel, the conference offers women affected by cancer an opportunity to learn, share their experiences and connect with others who understand. Newfoundland Power and Power of Life return as presenting partner.

The weekend’s program includes personal stories and sessions exploring the emotional and physical effects of cancer, including fear and uncertainty, identity and recovery. Small-group conversations, a ribbon ceremony, movement and meditation, and social activities give participants opportunities to connect throughout the weekend. An on-site counsellor will also be available during conference program hours.

“A cancer diagnosis can bring worries and feelings that are difficult to put into words,” said Kelly Reid, Chief Executive Officer of the Cancer Care Foundation. “There is comfort in being with people who understand without needing an explanation. This weekend gives women time to learn, share, laugh and build friendships. We hope they leave feeling supported and knowing they have people they can turn to.”

Led by volunteer co-chairs Joan Aucoin and Sondria Browne, the conference planning committee has worked alongside Foundation staff to create a welcoming weekend for first-time and returning participants.

Donations, sponsorship, and a fundraising committee help reduce registration costs and make the conference more accessible. The Foundation thanks Newfoundland Power and Power of Life, the Department of Health and Community Services, and the volunteers, speakers, donors and supporters who make the weekend possible. “We are grateful to everyone who puts so much care into this conference,” said Reid. “Their support makes it possible for 135 women from across our province to come together for a weekend that can mean so much.”
