Bay St. George RCMP investigating fatal collision on the Trans-Canada Highway
Bay St. George RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services are investigating a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway that resulted in the death of one individual on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on August 20, Bay St. George RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Flat Bay. RCMP Traffic Services West, St. George’s Fire Department, the provincial Department of Highways and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene.
An 80-year-old American woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second occupant of her vehicle — a 79-year-old man — was transported to hospital in Corner Brook for treatment of serious injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was also transported to hospital for treatment of injuries that are believed to be minor in nature.
A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended to support the investigation, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
