Silver medal performances for two Newfoundland teams on the national stage

News, Sports

It was a big weekend for fastpitch softball in Newfoundland and Labrador, with two provincial teams coming away with medals on the national stage.

The Newfoundland Under-15 boys put together an incredible run at the Canadian championships in Surrey, B.C., advancing all the way to the gold medal game.

Newfoundland went 4-2 in round-robin play before a big push in the playoffs.

And the championship game was a thriller with Quebec edging Newfoundland 6-5 in extra innings, leaving the provincial squad with a silver medal.

Meanwhile, in Nova Scotia, Akita Equipment also battled its way to a podium finish.

The Newfoundland club captured silver at the Eastern Canadian Women’s Fastpitch Championship, winning back-to-back playoff games on Sunday to reach the final.

But after three games in one day, Ontario shut the door, winning 4-0.

Two impressive runs, and two silver medals for Newfoundland and Labrador softball.
