Glovertown RCMP arrest pair for possession, flight from police
Glovertown RCMP arrested two men on Friday afternoon after responding to a call reporting a suspected impaired driver in Gambo. Two 38-year-old men were charged with possession and flight from police, after failing to stop for officers. One of the men faces additional charges of impaired operation and dangerous driving.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on July 31, an officer conducting traffic enforcement in Gambo received a call of a possible impaired driver near David Smallwood Park. Police immediately began patrols and quickly located the described vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, however, the driver failed to comply and fled from the officer driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.
Police located the vehicle on a trail a short time later and observed two men — both known to officers — leaving the scene on foot. The vehicle was seized by police and searched before it was impounded. Officers located drugs and drug paraphernalia during the search.
Patrols were conducted to locate the driver and passenger that fled the scene. The passenger, a 38-year-old man, was stopped outside a business on J.R Smallwood Boulevard and arrested without incident. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and flight from police and released from custody with conditions. He is required to appear in provincial court in December 2026.
The driver of the vehicle was located a short time later at a residence in Gambo and taken into custody. He was charged with:
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Flight from police
- Impaired operation
- Dangerous operation
The 38-year-old man was released with conditions to appear in court in December 2026. His driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.
