Bell Island RCMP is investigating a single-vehicle crash near the local airstrip that resulted in the death of one person. Police are asking the public to come forward with any information that can assist in determining the cause of the crash.

On July 29 around 8:30 a.m., Bell Island RCMP officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the airstrip. A 58-year-old man was located deceased near the vehicle.

Local officers, Police Dog Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the scene on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a public advisory to avoid the area.

At this time, the death is not being treated as suspicious in nature

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Residents in the community with information, or surveillance or dash camera footage that could assist police are asked to contact Bell Island RCMP at 709-488-3312.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged.
