Province Increasing Coverage for Patients with Cleft Lip or Palate
The provincial government is responding to concerns from families of children with cleft lip and palate by increasing coverage. Government will now cover the initial assessment fee of approximately $120, retroactive to October 1, 2025l. As well, the cap per treatment will be increased to $6.656, retroactive to April 1, 2026, and the government will now cover up to 5 treatments with a lifetime cap of just over $33K. Cases to be repaid will be contacted individually.
About 10 to 12 children in Newfoundland and Labrador are born each year with cleft lip and/or palate. Government says these increases in coverage will help relieve financial pressures on families while providing services at the full MCP rates that have been negotiated with the NL Dental Association.
