A 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after police in Happy Valley-Goose Bay responded to a report of an assault causing serious injuries. Cole Brown has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on July 17, police received a report of a man that arrived at hospital with serious injuries. Officers immediately began an investigation, patrolling the Learning Street area where the man was located and seeking information and video surveillance from potential witnesses.

The victim was able to identify a possible suspect. On July 18, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP, the Labrador District General Investigation Section and Police Dog Services obtained and executed a search warrant at a home near the spot where the victim was located.

Cole Brown, 20, was arrested in the home without incident. The search of the residence also resulted in the location and seizure of a prohibited edged weapon.

Brown was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court Monday on charges of aggravated assault and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

The victim remains in hospital with injuries that are serious, but not considered to be life-threatening in nature.
