Burin Peninsula RCMP seeking public’s assistance, cautioning caretakers after suspicious person reported
Burin Peninsula RCMP is investigating after receiving reports of suspicious men in the Epworth area. The suspects were driving a black sports utility vehicle (SUV), and in one instance, a youth reported that one of the men tried to speak to them. Police are asking anyone with information, or anyone who believes they encountered these men, to come forward as soon as possible.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. on July 13, two youths reported that they were approached by a black SUV outside of a residence in Epworth. There were two males in the vehicle, and the driver had white or grey hair and a moustache. The black SUV was seen driving past the residence multiple times throughout the day prior to the incident.
Burin Peninsula RCMP received an additional report from the same residence on July 16. A car and driver matching the description provided was observed turning into the driveway of the home, and appeared to take photos or video of the property on a cell phone. The youth involved were not harmed and reported the incident to a caregiver immediately, who then contacted police.
Burin Peninsula RCMP is seeking dash cam footage or surveillance video that may have captured an unknown Black SUV in the Epworth area over the last two weeks. It is also possible that similar incidents have not been reported, so police are asking parents and caretakers to talk to any youth in their home and report any concerning or suspicious behaviour to police.

Police encourage parents and caregivers to discuss personal safety with children and youth, including how to recognize and report suspicious behavior and safe responses to interactions with strangers. Children should be reminded to avoid engaging with people they do not know and to immediately tell a trusted adult about any concerning encounters. Residents are asked to be mindful of unusual activity and to report suspicious persons, vehicles or incidents to police promptly, with as much detail as possible.
