RCMP investigating possible drug-impaired driving after traffic stop near Holyrood
RCMP are investigating a possible case of drug-impaired driving after a traffic stop near Holyrood on Thursday night.
Police say officers with the Holyrood detachment and RCMP Traffic Services stopped a vehicle on Route 63, also known as Avondale Access Road, at about 10:30 p.m.
Officers noticed an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and believed the 57-year-old driver from Avondale was showing signs of drug impairment.
The man was arrested and taken to the Holyrood RCMP detachment, where he was assessed by a drug recognition expert. Police also obtained a blood sample and are waiting for the results before deciding whether impaired driving charges will be laid.
Police say they also found unsealed cannabis packaging in the vehicle.
The driver was ticketed under the province’s liquor and cannabis laws for having an open container of alcohol and unsealed cannabis in the vehicle. His licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges could be laid.
