Premier Wakeham to atttend Council of Federation and First Ministers’ Meetings with Prime Minister Carney

Premier Tony Wakeham will join his provincial and territorial counterparts for the 2026 Summer Meeting of Canada’s Premiers from July 21-23 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The First Ministers’ Meeting with the Prime Minister will take place on July 23.

The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians. The Council’s key initiatives are aimed at addressing present and future challenges facing the federation, in order to better meet the changing needs of Canadians.

Premier Wakeham looks forward to meeting with his fellow Premiers and discussing the province’s priorities, including strengthening the economy, advancing major projects, improving affordability, enhancing public safety, and improving health care. Of particular importance, Premier Wakeham looks forward to emphasizing the critical nature of healthcare funding to the province as well as how Newfoundland and Labrador is ready to support Canada’s New Defence Industrial Strategy through new sector development, including advancing plans for a floating drydock at Bull Arm.
