Province invests in cultural events across the province

Arts & Entertainment, News

The province has announced an investment of nearly $110,000 to support festivals, celebrations and cultural projects in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

This is an increase of $43,000 from last year’s funding to support public gatherings that celebrate and preserve local culture through engagement with arts and heritage, while showcasing the creativity, traditions and unique cultural identity that help define Newfoundland and Labrador.

This will support a range of community-based initiatives that encourage residents and visitors to experience and celebrate the province’s diverse cultural heritage. Funded activities include community festivals and celebrations, cultural skills-sharing events, significant anniversaries and commemorations, and multicultural festivals and celebrations. Eligible recipients of funding include not-for-profit community groups and organizations, municipalities, local service districts, Indigenous Governments and Organizations and other Indigenous community groups.

“Our culture is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s greatest strengths and a defining part of who we are,” says Andrea Barbour,
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. “Through this investment, we are supporting organizations and communities as they bring people together to celebrate local traditions, artistic talent and heritage. These events strengthen community connections, promote cultural pride and help ensure our rich and diverse cultural heritage continues to thrive for future generations.”
