Mary’s Harbour suspends two drivers for excessive speed
Mary’s Harbour RCMP suspended the licences of two drivers after they were stopped for excessive speeding on the Trans-Labrador Highway Monday afternoon.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. on July 13, an officer on patrol witnessed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed on the Trans-Labrador Highway (Route 510) near St. Lewis Inlet. A 34-year-old man was ticketed and had his licence suspended after he was captured by radar travelling at 133 km/hr where the posted speed limit is 80 km/hr.
Around 3:00 p.m., the same officer stopped a different vehicle travelling more than 80 km/hr over the posted speed limit near Lodge Bay. The driver, a 67-year-old man, was observed travelling 111 km/hr in a construction zone, where the speed limit was 30 km/hr for worker safety. He was ticketed for speeding, and his licence was suspended.
Drivers are reminded that posted construction zone speed limits and traffic control measures remain in effect whenever signage is displayed, regardless of whether workers are present and visible to you. Construction zones often contain hazards such as heavy equipment, uneven road surfaces, narrowed lanes and modified traffic patterns that require motorists to reduce their speed and remain alert.
