RNC arrest ATV driver for flight from police

Justice, News

The RNC arrested an ATV driver in Corner Brook.

Police observed an off-road vehicle travelling on the shoulder of the Trans-Canada Highway between Steady Brook and Corner Brook around 10:45 p.m. July 9 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver stopped long enough for the officers to get a plate number before fleeing. In the interest of public safety officers did not pursue. The ATV was later located abandoned on a trail off Confederation Drive at which time it was seized. A male matching the description of the driver was located and arrested nearby.

The 37-year-old from Deer Lake is facing criminal charges of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor-vehicle. He was also ticketed with various offences under the Highway Traffic Act and Off-Road Vehicles Act including driving while suspended, operating without a license, and having no insurance. He will appear in court at a later date.
