Bonnie Tyler, best known for one of rock’s all-time best ballads, passes away at age 75
The music world is mourning the loss of legendary singer Bonnie Tyler, who has died at the age of 75.
The Welsh-born performer was best known for her 1983 chart-topping hit, Total Eclipse of the Heart, one of the defining power ballads of its era. Her family says she died unexpectedly in a hospital in Portugal, where she had been receiving treatment for an illness. Tyler underwent emergency intestinal surgery in May and was placed in an induced coma, but had reportedly been improving in recent weeks.
During a career spanning more than five decades, Tyler earned three Grammy nominations and sold millions of records worldwide. Total Eclipse of the Heart alone has been streamed more than one billion times. In recent years, she embraced a country sound, recording music in Nashville.
