Convicted murderer Al Potter dies in federal prison
A man from this province, who was serving a life sentence for murder, has died while in federal custody. Al Potter, 63, died Wednesday at a correctional institution in Quebec, according to Correctional Service Canada.
Potter was convicted of first-degree murder in 2019 in the death of 39-year-old Dale Porter.
Porter was killed in 2014, and Potter was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. He had appealed his conviction in 2021 to the Supreme Court of Canada, which declined to hear it.
As is standard procedure whenever an inmate dies in custody, Correctional Service Canada says the death will be investigated.
No further details have been released.
