NL Regiment out of the running to host 2028 Memorial Cup

News, Sports

The Newfoundland Regiment’s hope to host the 2028 Memorial Cup fell short today. The Regiment was among four QMJHL teams to make a bid to host Canadian junior hockey’s premiere event.

Earlier today, the league announced two finalists to host the event, but unfortunately, the City of St. John’s was not one of them.
In a statement to fans, Regiment President Glenn Stanford said the club is disappointed, and believed the timing was right.
Stanford added that the team is already working on something they are “very excited about,” and that more will be shared in the days to come.

The regiment are coming off a big playoff run, and were also a hit at the gate, breaking a league record by averaging over 5,000 fans per game.

Moncton and Gatineau are now the two teams remaining in the bid to host the 2028 event.
