Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP conducting ATV patrols, reminding riders of off-road rules
Off-road vehicle operators in the Whitbourne area will see an increased police presence as officers hit the trails to enforce all rules and regulations outlined in the Off-Road Vehicles, Highway Traffic and Liquor Control Acts, as well as the Criminal Code.
As the summer recreation season kicks off, all off-road vehicle operators, parents and guardians are reminded that you are required to understand and obey the laws and regulations in your area, including municipal guidelines. Summer off-road vehicles include all-terrain vehicles, quads, side-by-sides and dirt bikes.
Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP officers will be patrolling looking for common Highway Traffic and Off-Road Vehicles Act infractions, like:
- operating without helmets or seatbelts,
- operating without a valid licence, registration or insurance where these are required,
- youth operating without proper supervision,
- riders operating at excessive speeds,
- operation in areas where off-road vehicles are not permitted.
Police will also be looking for Criminal Code violations like impaired driving or possession of stolen vehicles.
