76-year-old man dead after SUV collides with tractor trailer on TCH near Hillview
A 76-year-old man is dead after a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway Saturday.
It happened in Hillview near the Route 205 exit at around 6:40 a.m. on July 4. Clarenviille RCMP responded to a collision between an SUV and a commercial tractor trailer. Members of the Northern Bight Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the crash.
The occupant of the SUV, a 76-year-old man, was rushed from the scene to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The driver of the transport truck was also taken local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene and crews cleared debris — including spilled hazardous fluids.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged and the investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing at this time.
