Canada to play Morocco in Canada Cup matchup on Saturday
Canada’s incredible run at the World Cup of Soccer is continuing with a big matchup this weekend. The Canadians are through to the round of 16 after a dramatic 1-0 victory over South Africa in the round of 32.
Canada now knows its opponent as Morocca scored late to tie the Netherlands last night, winning in a penalty shootout. Canada advanced out of Group B after finishing behind Switzerland. The Canadians opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, crushed Qatar 6-0, and then fell 2-1 to Switzerland before their knockout win over South Africa.
Morocco earned their place by upsetting the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout Monday. Canada and Morocco go head to head on Saturday with the winner advancing to the World Cup quarterfinals.
