Crews make progress battling Labrador wildfires

The RNC advises due to the smoke in the area of Walsh River outside Labrador City, visibility is poor on the highway (Route 500).
Motorists are asked to drive with caution, reduce speeds and avoid this area if possible
UPDATE – Monday, June 29, 2026 – 9:30 p.m. Waterbombers made significant progress on wildfires in the Walsh River area west of Labrador City this evening, as well as the De Mille Lake fire east of Wabush.
An Incident Management Team is being put in place and will be on site in Labrador tomorrow to assist crews in managing the wildfires.
