Clarenville RCMP seizes vehicle from driver travelling more than 65 km/h over the limit
Police seized a vehicle and suspended the licence of a driver caught travelling more than 65 km/h over the posted speed limit Saturday evening. The driver was also issued a ticket for speeding, one of at least 21 Highway Traffic Act tickets issued during a weekend traffic enforcement blitz in the area.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on June 27, an officer patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Clarenville observed a vehicle travelling at speeds up to 168 km/h where the posted speed limit is 100 km/h. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was issued a ticket for his excessive speed. In addition, his vehicle was seized and impounded by police, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
The ticket was one of 16 issued by police in the Clarenville-Bonavista area for speeding this weekend. Officers conducting traffic enforcement issued another five Highway Traffic Act tickets for other infractions including failing to produce a valid driver’s licence, failing to obey a traffic control device, crossing a solid line to pass and driving while disqualified.
