Labrador West wildfire now classified as being held

The wildfire in Emerillon lake area of Labrador West has is now classified as being held. That’s after it ignited Tuesday evening and was reported out of control.

In a statement yesterday, the province confirmed two waterbombers and three helicopters were sent to the fire Tuesday evening. Today, fire suppression efforts continued with aircraft and ground crew working on the hot spots. 

The fire index for Labrador City and surrounding area is set at high. Permits to burn brush and other materials are suspended. The use of fireworks and sky lanterns is banned. Outdoor fires and activities in the forest land can be conducted, but residents are reminded to practice extreme caution.
