Los Angeles Stadium rings with Great Big Sea’s ‘Ordinary Day’ after Canada wins first ever World Cup knockout match

The lyrics of Great Big Sea’s “Ordinary Day” were ringing through the cavernous Los Angeles Stadium Sunday after Canada won a knockout match for the first time ever at the FIFA World Cup.

Canadian captain Stephen Eustaquio scored in injury time in the second half to give Canada a 1-0 lead over South Africa with roughly four minutes of playing time left.

The lead held until the referee blew the final whistle, sending Canada to the Round of 16 for the first time in the history of the men’s national soccer team.

Canada will play the either the Netherlands or Morocco next Saturday in Houston in the next round of the knockout stage.
