Community mourns the loss of father, daughter following fatal motorcycle crash

News

Residents on the southern shore are mourning the loss of father and daughter Corey Kenny and Stacey-Lynn Kenny, following a fatal accident on Monday.

Family and friends of the pair are sending their condolences, and inviting residents to hang a jersey, or hockey stick in honour of the father and daughter.

“We are inviting the Mobile Central High school community to display or hang a Mobile Central High jersey, hockey stick, MCHS clothing, or any other sports memorabilia you may have on your front door or porch this evening in the memory of Stacey Lynn and Corey.

Our thoughts are with the Kenny family and their many friends within Mobile Central High family and our broader community during this difficult time.”

Earlier story:

Avalon East District RCMP is investigating a moose-vehicle collision Monday evening that resulted in the deaths of two people.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on June 22, Ferryland RCMP received a report of a collision on Route 10 involving a motorcycle, a passenger vehicle and a moose. Officers from neighbouring Avalon East District RCMP detachments, local firefighters and Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene.

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle, a 48-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle was assessed by paramedics, and did not require further treatment.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended to assist with the investigation, and a section of Route 10 in Aquaforte was closed overnight while officers examined the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has also been engaged.

The investigation is continuing.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador offers its sincere condolences to the friends, family and community of the deceased.
