Police stops driver with expired licence, launches drug impaired driving investigation
Rocky Harbour RCMP arrested a 42-year-old woman on Friday morning during a traffic stop on Route 430. The driver, who was operating with an expired licence, showed signs of impairment by drugs, and police are now investigating if impaired operation charges are appropriate.
On April 10, around 10:20 a.m., officers patrolling Route 430 stopped a vehicle being operating by a woman known to have an expired driver’s licence. The 42-year-old woman was also the subject of an active arrest warrant and was taken into custody by police.
During the interaction, officers observed signs of impairment by drugs. A search of the driver also resulted in the location and seizure of a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine.
The woman was transported to a nearby health centre where she was presented with a demand for a blood sample. Police are waiting on the results to determine if additional charges of impaired operation are appropriate.
The vehicle she was driving was seized and impounded by police, and her driver’s licence was suspended. The driver was released from custody with conditions, and will appear in court at a future date. The investigation continues, with additional charges possible.
