Port Saunders RCMP stops two impaired drivers on the long weekend

Justice, News

Two impaired drivers had their licenses suspended and vehicles seized by RCMP in Port Saunders over the long weekend.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday April 4, a Port Saunders RCMP officer stopped a vehicle observed driving erratically in the area of Fisher Street in Port au Choix. The driver, 54-year-old woman, showed signs of impairment, failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.

She was transported to the detachment in Port Saunders where she provided additional breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

Police seized and impounded her vehicle and her driver’s licence was suspended. She is expected to appear in provincial court in June 2026 in relation to the impaired operation charges. She was also issued a ticket for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

The following day, Sunday, at approximately 7:40 p.m. police stopped a vehicle on Route 430 near Bellburns. The driver showed signs of impairment, and a roadside breath test was administered. The results were over the provincial limit, but under the criminal threshold for impaired operation. The 40-year-old man’s driver’s license was suspended roadside and his vehicle was impounded.
