Burin Peninsula RCMP responds to man unlawfully inside a residence with a concealed weapon, multiple charges laid

Burin Peninsula RCMP arrested and charged a 28-year-old Grand Bank man with several Criminal Code offences after responding to a firearms complaint in Fortune last Tuesday.

Just before 7:00 p.m. on March 31, officers responded to a report of an unwanted individual inside a private residence on Forest Road in Fortune. The suspect, armed with a concealed weapon, entered the home unlawfully and confronted an occupant inside. The suspect and victim were known to one another.

The suspect fled the residence in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

Officers conducted patrols of the area and located 28-year-old Anthony Hoskins, who matched the description provided to police. Hoskins was arrested without incident outside a business in Grand Bank.

Hoskins faces charges under the Criminal Code, including:

  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling house,
  • Careless use of a firearm,
  • Carrying a concealed weapon,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized,
  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence,
  • Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle,
  • Fail to comply with a Probation Order – two counts.

Hoskins made his first appearance in Grand Bank Provincial Court on Wednesday, April 1.

The investigation is ongoing.
