The Newfoundland Regiment lost 5-4 in overtime to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles last night in Cape Breton.

Newfoundland appeared in control through the first two periods, taking a 2-0 lead early and a 4-1 advantage after 40 minutes. Cape Breton scored three straight goals in the third period to force overtime, then won 22 seconds into the overtime period.

St. John’s native Ben Veitch scored twice for Newfoundland. The rookie forward was the club’s top pick in last summer’s league draft.

Despite the loss, Newfoundland holds a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven opening-round series. Game 6 is Sunday at Mary Brown’s Centre.
