RCMP inviting new members to Black Engagement Steering Committee (RBESCo)
The Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Newfoundland and Labrador is inviting new members to join the RCMP Black Engagement Steering Committee (RBESCo), and to help guide and inform the RCMP on issues and concerns of the Black community in this province.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Cahill is seeking community-based volunteers to join the committee. The collective work on the committee is guided by the goals of promoting fairness, increasing understanding, reducing barriers, and driving meaningful change.
The committee meets virtually two to three times per year, and candidates from metro areas and rural communities across Newfoundland and Labrador are encouraged to apply.
The RCMP are also looking to add youth members to the committee (between the ages of 18-30) to ensure issues of particular interest to youth from the Black community are brought forward.
Members of the RBESCo will be asked to:
- Share their lived experience as a member of the Black community.
- Help foster cultural exchange between the Black community and the RCMP.
- Serve as a voice on a committee focused on removing barriers and improving engagement between the Black community and the RCMP.
If you are interested in helping to drive meaningful change, please indicate your interest by Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in an email to vanessa.hendry@rcmp-grc.gc.ca . Please include a brief description of how your lived experience relates to the needs of the committee.
