Channel-Port aux Basques RCMP charges man with resisting arrest

Justice, News

Police charged a 54-year-old man with resisting a peace officer after an altercation during the execution of a warrant on Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:30 p.m. on March 26, officers attended a home in Doyles to execute both a civil and criminal warrant. The subject of the warrant – a 54-year-old man – failed to comply with instructions from police and actively resisted arrest. Following a short altercation, he was taken into police custody and charged with obstructing or resisting a police officer.

Emergency Medical Services personnel attended the scene and transported the man to hospital for evaluation, however, no injuries were reported and he was released to officers a short time later.

He was transported to Stephenville and is expected to appear in provincial court today in relation to his earlier warrant.
