News, Sports

Liam Hickey added another medal to his trophy case Sunday, winning a silver medal at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Italy.

It’s his third straight silver in men’s hockey at the Paralympics, with all three losses coming to the powerful United States in the final.

Canada was brilliant at these games, finishing atop the standings with a perfect record in three games in a preliminary round. They then beat China 4-0 in the semifinal, with Hickey picking up a goal and two assists.

Hickey actually scored both of Canada‘s goal in the final, his team leading 12th point of the Paralympics in a 6-2 loss to the U.S.

The 27-year-old is one of the province’s most decorated athletes, winning multiple provincial athlete of the year honours.

These Paralympics mark a fourth Games for Hickey. A multi-sport athlete, he made his Paralympic debut in wheelchair basketball at Rio 2016 before switching to para ice hockey for the 2018 and 2022 Games – winning back-to-back silver medals.
