Geoff Walker says goodbye to Newfoundland and Labrador curling fans
After an incredible 15-year run with the celebrated Brad Gushue rink, Geoff Walker is moving on.
He starred with the St. John’s-based rink for the past 15 years, helping the team win six Brier titles, Olympic bronze and several Grand Slam events.
“Winning a Brier for Newfoundland & Labrador in St. John’s is a memory I will never forget,” he said in a social media post Thursday night. “Having the opportunity to play one final time last week as part of YOUR TEAM made it even more special. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Brad, Mark, Brendan and all of my former teammates, coaches, and support staff, as well as the fans and sponsors who have supported us throughout the years. Your encouragement has meant the world.”
Following Brad Gushue’s retirement announcement earlier this season, the 40-year-old Albertan made it clear earlier this season that he won’t be part of an NL-based team in the future. It’s uncertain where he’s headed next season.
